Itinerary

Day 1 - Drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Rongai Gate (Nale Moru) and Hike to Simba Camp

Start your adventure with a scenic 3-hour drive from Moshi, passing through charming villages and coffee plantations. The journey includes a stop at Marangu to obtain climbing permits. Upon reaching Nale Moru, a picturesque wooden village, begin your hike on a wide path that winds through fields of maize and potatoes, gradually entering a pine forest. As you ascend, you'll be surrounded by diverse wildlife. The first camp, Simba Camp, awaits you at the edge of the moorland zone, providing breathtaking views of the Kenyan plains.

Day 2 - Hike from Simba Camp to Second Cave

Embark on a steady ascent to Second Cave, where you'll be rewarded with stunning vistas of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim. This 3-4 hour hike through the moorland habitat sets the stage for further adventures.

Day 3 Hike from Second Cave to Third Cave

Continue your journey from Second Cave to Third Cave, crossing the semi-desert landscape. This 2-3 hour hike offers a unique experience in the rugged terrain.

Day 4 - Hike from Third Cave to Kibo Hut

Embark on a 3-4 hour hike from Third Cave to Kibo Hut, nestled at the base of the Kibo crater wall. Take this day to rest and prepare for the final ascent, as you acclimate to the higher altitude of the Alpine Desert habitat.

Day 5 - Hike from Kibo Hut to Summit, and Descend to Horombo Hut

This is the day you've been preparing for! Begin your climb to the summit in the early morning hours, between midnight and 2 am. The steep and challenging path takes you to Gilman's Point, located on the crater rim. From there, continue your ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, offering breathtaking panoramic views. Descend to Kibo Hut for lunch and rest before making your way to the Horombo Huts, where you'll spend the night.

Day 6 - Hike from Horombo Hut to the Trailhead, and Drive to Arusha or Moshi

After a hearty breakfast, embark on a steady descent through the lush forest, passing the Mandara Hut, and eventually reaching the National Park gate at Marangu. The terrain may become wet and muddy at lower elevations, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. From there, you'll be driven to either Arusha or Moshi, marking the end of your remarkable Kilimanjaro adventure. This challenging yet rewarding expedition will test your endurance, resilience, and determination as you climb one of the world's most iconic peaks. Take in the stunning landscapes, encounter diverse wildlife, and create lifelong memories on your Kilimanjaro Climb Rongai Route.
